Fresh and frozen options are available. Anchovy is an oceanodromous saltwater fish that lives in subtropical seas at depths of up to 400 meters. It is accepted that the water temperature to which it is best adapted is 21 °C. It lives mostly in the Black Sea, Azov Sea, Marmara Sea, Mediterranean and Peru. It is found in small numbers in the Suez Canal, the Gulf of Suez, the European coast between Norway and London, and South Africa. It has also been recorded to be seen in Estonia and the island of Saint Helena. It lives in flocks and grows up to 18 cm. It approaches the beaches to feed between January and March. 30–40 m during the day. It wanders in the depths and near the surface at night. It reaches maturity at the age of 1 and swims in waters of 18°-20°C, at depths of 25–60 m. It breeds at depths and in slightly salty waters and lays approximately 40,000 eggs. The longest life expectancy on record is 5 years.
